Simple Halloween lesson plan to teach students the basics of Halloween safety. Students will work in groups to brainstorm a variety of safety tips.
Halloween is a fun evening for kids and adults. Everyone is excited about getting dressed up and receiving handfuls of candy from the neighbors. Often in the rush, little ones and even adults forget the Halloween safety tips that will keep everyone safe. Kids are eager to learn anything about a holiday, teach them the basics on Halloween safety. Drama is often a neglected course in school, but is easy to implement drama into teaching students about the abc’s on Halloween safety tips.
Halloween Safety Tips Lesson Plan
- Divide the class into groups of 4-6 students.
- Each group is given a big piece of chart paper.
- Students in their groups are to brainstorm as many Halloween Safety tips they can think of. Younger students can use pictures to illustrate their safety tips.
- After the students brainstorm, they are to choose their favorite Halloween safety tips and create a play to demonstrate the safety tip. ( Teacher will ensure each group is presenting a different Halloween safety tip.)
- Students present their play to the class to demonstrate the different Halloween safety tips.
- Record all the Halloween safety tips on chart paper and review on Halloween.
Halloween Safety Tips
- Carry a flashlight
- Walk with a buddy
- Do not run from house to house
- Only go to homes that are lit
- Only cross the street at street corners
- Wear reflective tape on your costume
- Wear costumes that are short to prevent tripping
- Use caution when wearing masks
- Do not pet any animals
- Do not eat the candy, until an adult has given you the okay
- Never enter a stranger’s home or car for a treat
- Plan your route
- Do not play near jack-o-lanterns
