No camping experience is complete without delicious marshmallow dessert recipes. Simple camping dessert recipes that are cooked over a roaring campfire.

Camping is not complete without eating a delicious marshmallow warmed over a roaring campfire. Marshmallows are a dessert staple for camping enthusiasts for over a hundred years. S'mores are the original campfire dessert but with a little creativity marshmallows can make an assortment of enjoyable desserts.

Before any camping dessert can be made, the camper needs to learn how to roast the perfect marshmallow. The secret is to slowly roast the marshmallow. Rather than placing the marshmallow deep into the fire, slowly rotate it above the fire until it turns golden in colour. Charred marshmallows are not the best ingredient for s'mores.

Many kids enjoy burning rather than roasting marshmallows. Indulge them with a few to add to the camping experience.

S'mores

Ingredients:

  • marshmallows
  • graham crackers
  • chocolate
  • roasting sticks
  • campfire

Simply roast a marshmallow over the campfire into a golden colour. Once cooked, slide the cooked marshmallow on a graham cracker and top with a piece of chocolate. Lastly, place another graham cracker on top to make a delicious s'mores. S'mores are the ultimate campfire dessert. A nice twist to s'mores is to roast a marshmallow and slide it between two chocolate chip cookies.

Original s'more recipes can be altered with just a few additions or deletions. Create a Mexican s'more by smothering peanut butter, chocolate chips, and mini marshmallows between two flour tortillas. Wrap tortillas in foil and warm over an open fire. It takes about 10 minutes for the ingredients to melt.

S'more's main ingredients are marshmallows, chocolate pieces, and cookies. Simply roast a marshmallow and slide between two of your favourite cookies and add your favourite chocolate pieces such as peanut butter cups or rolos.

Banana BoatIngredients:

  • banana
  • chocolate
  • marshmallows
  • aluminum foil

Cut the banana down the middle. Stuff the marshmallows and chocolate into the center of the banana. Next, wrap in aluminum foil and cook over the campfire for five to ten minutes. Rotate and cook for another five to ten minutes. Banana boats are ready once the marshmallows and chocolate have melted. Grab a spoon and enjoy banana boats with the family.

Rice Crispy TreatsIngredients:

  • rice crispy cereal
  • marshmallows
  • butter

Melt 1/4 cup of butter in a pot over the open fire. Add 2 1/2 cups of marshmallow and stir continually as they melt over the fire. After the marshmallows are melted, remove from the fire and stir in 3 cups of cereal. Pour onto buttered foil or wax paper. Press the rice crispies down and let cool. Once cool, cut and enjoy over the roaring campfire.

Parents and kids can finish their camping day by roaring some marshmallows over a roasting fire. The family can make a few delicious marshmallow desserts such as s'mores, banana boats and rice crispy treats as they spend time with one another in the great outdoors.
